Great news for the Summer #UrbanOasis24

Winfo Alley transformation is on the way…..

Back in May, the WinStreetRA committe submitted an application for funding to Forever Manchester , and it was accepted. 🙂

Ww asked for money to clean the alleyway, get some pallet planters on the walls, 6 week holidays – activities for the kids and a street party.

We’ll be starting THURSDAY 18th JULY with the Alleyway Clean

Hoping to get pallets prepped from 25th July, and mounted on walls 2nd August.

And THEN…. August 10th 2024 STREET PARTY .

Huge huge thanks to Forever Manchester

Alleyway Clean Despite arranging a professional clean last year, the dust and dirt have returned. This time, we’re hiring a power washer for the weekend and doing it ourselves. Kicking off on th enext Black Bin Day (July 18th 24).

Check out this bad boy coming soon to Winflo Alley !

Reasons for Using Pallets on Walls
Residents often place pots on the ground for alleyway greening, but limited space and the presence of downstairs bathrooms lead to many storing bins in the alleyway. This makes the potted plants less visible. Mounting pallets on the wall will make the plants and flowers visible to residents and passersby.

Advantages of Using Pallets
Pallets are often free, available through platforms like Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree. They can be sanded, painted, and used as containers for planting, utilizing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. Involving the community, including children and adults, can turn this into a summer activity.
Reasons for Hiring a Contractor
Professional assistance is necessary for wall mounting to ensure safety, security, and proper insurance coverage.

Sensory Area – In the middle of the alleyway, there is a section without bins. On one side, there is a tree where we want to create a play area with little seats using a scenic shower curtain backdrop. On the opposite wall, we plan to mount two bicycle tires for spinning wheels and a marble run, alongside clocks and flags. This will be an activity wall for younger children and those with sensory issues.
